Joe Murdock is a seasoned organizational, group and individual capability consulting professional with 40+ years of multi-industry experience in the psycho-social services, consumer product manufacturing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, pharmaceutical research, healthcare payer managed care, and provider healthcare fields.
Joe’s career includes progressive responsibilities in rehabilitation psychotherapy, psychometrics, production management, human resources administration, organizational development, organizational design, talent acquisition and talent management. These responsibilities have been carried out within the following organizations: Mount Diablo Rehabilitation Center in Contra Costa County, California; Adult Probation Office in Richmond, California; Joseph E. Seagram and Sons, Inc., New York, NY; The Johnson and Johnson Family of Companies, Inc., New Brunswick, New Jersey; Aetna/US Healthcare, Inc., Hartford, Connecticut; St. Vincent Health, Indianapolis, Indiana; and Ascension, St. Louis, Missouri.

For over two decades, Joe has been a member and leadership effectiveness coach for C-Suite executive team members at regional and national organizational levels for both Aetna/US Healthcare and St. Vincent Health. Joe’s career has also included membership and leadership posts on a number of organizational and community boards and committees. The 100 Black Men – Indianapolis Chapter, The New Harmony Project, New Harmony, Indiana, The Indianapolis Urban League, Indianapolis, Indiana, St. Mary’s Hospital, Evansville, Indiana, Mercy Hospital, Elwood, Indiana, Saint Johns Health, Anderson, Indiana and Goodwill Commercial Services in Indianapolis, Indiana have all been organizations that Joe has been fortunate to serve.
In his current role as Founder and Managing Principal of Cephalo Consulting, LLC, Joe uses his broad experience and expertise to help leaders strategically and operationally advance the capability of their business to achieve mission-critical objectives. His approach is focused on “Capability Planning – Connecting the Dots”, which integrates the interdependencies between the organization’s Mission, Service/Product Portfolio, Strategy, Structure, People and Performance Indicators for optimal, holistic success.
Joe employs a thought-to-action partnership approach with leaders to collaboratively design, develop and
integrate organizational capability-enabling systems, processes and practices. Joe’s specific expertise includes executive coaching, strategic plan development, pay for performance process design, competency-based selection process design, talent acquisition, workplace data management/measurement, leadership formation and development, talent management, associate on-boarding process design, two-way communication intervention design, base pay and incentive pay design, organizational structure design and management hierarchy accountability structure design.
A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Joe completed his undergraduate education at Cornell University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development. He completed his graduate education at San Francisco State University with a Master of Science degree in Psychotherapy. Joe and his wife Wanda have two grown sons and currently live in Carmel, Indiana.
